The bountiful bento box displayed near the entrance mesmerizes diners awaiting seats. It typically contains a crispy shrimp and calamari salad, salmon skin roll, two vegetable dumplings, a tofu salad, and a chicken katsu pizza. At lunch, it's easily enough for two. And given the indifferent decor of plastic room dividers and skimpy representations of irises and lotus blossoms, it's a good thing the focus is on the food to come. Three or four chefs operate at the sushi bar in back, employing truly fresh fish to turn out dumplings and rolls both traditional and cross-cultural in character. In the latter category are jalapeño shrimp with ponzu sauce and the mango chicken roll with cilantro, hot peppers, lettuce, and mayo. (Mayo?) Odd or conventional, most items work to happy satisfaction.
