Farafra Development Association -- The name's not exactly exciting, but this is a great shopping opportunity if you want to pick up quality local handicrafts at excellent prices. Even if you're just passing through the oasis on your way to Dakhla or to Bahareya, it's worth pulling off to check out the wares being produced by the women of the village. The association is actually retraining local women in traditional crafts, so the slit-weave carpets, camel-hair scarves, and embroidered gallebeyas are not only handmade, but made to patterns that have been handed down over the centuries from generation to generation.
