Sugar Hill Inn ReviewA classic New England inn, with wraparound porch and sweeping mountain panoramas occupying 16 acres on lovely Sugar Hill, this welcoming, comfortable spot is a great base for exploring the western White Mountains. Bette Davis stayed here once upon a time, no doubt for the great expansive views out back. A new owner purchased the place in 2006, and so far he has improved the property with central air-conditioning and an in-ground pool, the inn's first. (He's said to be adding a cottage to the property soon as well.) Rooms are graciously appointed in antique country style, some influenced by Shaker sensibility; many have gas Vermont Castings stoves for heat and atmosphere. The dining room, one of the area's best, serves upscale eclectic four-course dinners in a cozy, fire-lit-tavern setting to both inn guests and the general public -- a point of pride for the new owner, who received culinary training in New York. The restaurant is closed Wednesdays. Facilities: Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
