Almost overnight, without much of the world being aware, the city of Frankfurt has become one of Europe's great dining capitals. Everybody knows it for its banking and business, but serious gourmets also descend on the city, which offers one of Europe's most varied cuisines. It still doesn't have as eclectic a mixture of cuisine as New York (which has virtually every cuisine served on Earth), but Frankfurt is getting there.
For years, visitors to the famous book fair always came home to tell visitors, "You can't get a decent meal in Frankfurt." That wasn't even true way back then, and it's gross libel today. Still fighting to overcome a terrible culinary reputation, Frankfurt now ranks with Berlin and Munich as a dining mecca.
