There are many cafes scattered throughout Frankfurt, but this one is proud of literary antecedents that are a bit deeper, broader, and more authentic than those that are cited by some of its competitors. No one will mind if you adopt this place as a cafe, but if you want full-fledged meals, they're available as well, but only until its regrettably early closing every day at 7pm. Menu items include crisp schnitzels, freshly made salads, grilled steaks with peppercorn sauce, roulades of beef or pork stuffed with herbs and bread crumbs, and when it's available, good-tasting fresh game and fish dishes. Framed honorariums on the walls of this place refer to its most historically famous client, a prominent scholar of Hegel and Marx, musicologist and philosopher Theodor Adorno (1903-69), who used to come here every day in the 1930s for coffee and conversation before moving on to professorships at Oxford and Princeton.
