Getting There

By Train -- Frequent trains connect Freiburg to major airports in Basel (Switzerland) and Stuttgart. Daily trains arrive from Frankfurt (trip time: 2 hr.) and Hamburg (trip time: 8 hr.), as well as from Berlin and Zürich, Switzerland. For information, call tel. 01805/996633.

By Bus -- Long-distance bus service is provided by Südbaden Bus GmbH, Central Bus Station, Freiburg (tel. 0761/3680388), with service from Freiburg to EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse; and by EuroRegioBus (tel. 0761/3680388), which has a bus between Freiburg and the French cities of Mulhouse and Colmar.

By Car -- Access by car is via the A5 Autobahn north and south.

For tourist information, contact Freiburg Information, Rathausplatz 2-4 (tel. 0761/3881880). The office is open June to September Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 9:30am to 5:30pm, and Sunday 10am to noon; and October to May Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 9:30am to 2:30pm, and Sunday 10am to noon.

Getting Around

Freiburg is well served by buses and trams, the latter running in the inner city. A one-way fare costs 2€ ($3.20); a 24-hour day pass is 4.80€ ($7.70). A family pass, good for two adults and up to four children, is sold for just 8€ ($13). For schedules and information, or to buy passes, go to Plus-Punkt, Salzstrasse 3 (tel. 0761/4511500), in the Altstadt. Hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm and Saturday 8am to 2pm. Most of the city's public transportation network shuts down from 12:30 to 5:30am.
