The G Review

All Galway is talking about this over-the-top place. Designed by the hat designer Philip Treacy, it looks like a cross between Barbarella and My Fair Lady, which is to say it's an extraordinary-looking place. There are psychedelic touches (the Pink Salon is the color of Pepto-Bismol with a white-and-black spiral carpet and purple sofas) and a love of disco chic (the otherwise subtle taupe-and-white grand salon has masses of huge glass baubles hanging overhead). Rooms are calmer, in soothing white with touches of coffee and cream, and luxuriant beds with soft pillows and lush linens. Bathrooms are sensational, many have showers built for two, and all have excellent bath products. The service is outstanding -- a team of butlers attend to your every whim, and the room service menu is long and varied, featuring dishes from the Italian-Irish in-house restaurant. The ESPA spa is oh-so-sophisticated, and it's all very Manhattan. It's about a 15-minute walk from central Galway. It was included in Condé Nast's Gold List for 2009, and there is no place trendier on Ireland's west coast.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; smoke-free rooms; spa

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
