The Twelve ReviewNamed for the famous Twelve Pins mountain range of Connemara, this old-world roadside inn has revamped itself in recent years into a luxurious, modern, four-star boutique guesthouse. Most guest rooms have comfortable king-size or twin beds, and some have fold-out sofa beds for families traveling with children. Beds are covered in fluffy comforters and soft bedspreads; windows have peaceful views. The West Restaurant downstairs is one of the best in the area. Its menu features fresh local seafood and produce; try the marinated salmon carpaccio, or the lobster, crab, and prawn terrine. This is a pet-friendly hotel; just call ahead if you want to bring your dog. Check the website for good special offers and inclusive deals. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
