On first impression, the unprepossessing exterior of this ramshackle, whitewashed hut—located on a pier in the middle of Lake Geneva—seems an unlikely venue for a hugely-popular café-bar. Nonetheless it draws a surprisingly eclectic crowd for its coffee and cake, soups, salads, platters of cold cuts, a wholesome plat du jour, and both soft and alcoholic drinks. But La Buvette des Bains is perhaps best known for its top-notch breakfasts (served 8–11:30am)—the traditionally Swiss Bircher Muesli is especially delicious—and, on winter evenings (Sept–Apr), its superb cheese fondues. The shack is located on a manmade promontory at the far end of the Bains de Pâquis, and is accessed by means of a long wooden boardwalk over the lake. It's hugely popular year-round with a young, trendy crowd (huddled round heaved stoves in winter, and basking on the terraces in summer); and with families who flock to the beaches and lido-style swimming area in sunny weather. Cash only.
