Latitude 43 Restaurant & Bar ReviewA harborfront location is sometimes a red flag -- a popular myth says water views make up for other deficiencies -- but here the view just adds to the funky, laid-back atmosphere. Popular year-round (which means the picky locals eat here, too), "Lat 43" offers something for everyone. Clam and fish chowder, greaseless fried seafood, and tasty burgers and lobster rolls are terrific renditions of perennial favorites. More sophisticated dishes include salads overflowing with local produce, bistro favorites such as braised lamb shank, or excellent paella. You can even get sushi, an option inexplicably absent in many New England seaports. There's seating on the pleasant deck in good weather, and the staff can point out notable features of the certified-green building. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
