Getting There -- All train passengers to Gmunden must transfer in the railway junction of either Attnang-Puchheim (the more convenient) or Lambach. Both sit directly on the main rail line between Linz and Salzburg, handling many express trains throughout the day.
From Attnang-Puchheim, about 64km (40 miles) to the north, about a dozen trains continue on to Gmunden's Hauptbahnhof (main railway station). From Lambach, only around three trains per day run to Gmunden's Seebahnhof (lakeside railway station). Taxis are readily available for the short trip between these two stations, although the Hauptbahnhof is more convenient to most hotels. To reach Gmunden from Linz by car, take the A-1 southwest to the junction with Route 144, at which point you head south.
Visitor Information -- The tourist office, Toscanapark 1 (tel. 07612/64305; www.traunsee.at), is open in winter Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 1pm; in summer Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 7pm.
