This exquisite lodge is one of the most remote ecolodges in the Southern Zone, accessible only by boat, about a 30-minute ride from Golfito deep inside the Golfo Dulce. The wildlife and nature viewing here is fabulous (it’s a good place to find the endemic Golfo Dulce frog), as are the hikes through primary forest on the lodge’s own 66-hectare (163-acre) private reserve adjoining the much larger Piedras Blancas National Park. From here you can go kayaking or snorkeling in the Golfo Dulce, where dolphins are common and whale sharks are occasionally spotted. Rooms are rich in local hardwoods, and each has an element that makes guests feel like they’re one with nature. Tasty family-style meals are served in the large main lodge building, which soars over two floors featuring sitting areas, a library, and reception, all entirely open to the surrounding forest. The lodge does not have Wi-Fi.
