The largest lodge at the canyon, Yavapai lies a mile from the historic district but close to a bank with an ATM, the post office, and the Canyon Village Marketplace. Built between 1970 and 1972, the lodge houses a large cafeteria and gift shop. The 358 rooms lie in ten single-story buildings known as Yavapai West and six two-story wood buildings known as Yavapai East. Most rooms in Yavapai West are compact with cinder-block walls, but they do afford guests the benefit of driving to the door. Yavapai East's units are larger, with king-size beds and air-conditioning, and many enjoy views of the forest: They're worth the extra money. The gravel paths connecting the buildings are very dark at night, so bring a flashlight.
