One of Grand Cayman's best condo complexes is The Avalon, which occupies prime real estate on a stretch of the Seven Mile Beach. Painted a distinctive shade of blue-violet (the staff refers to it as "orchid"), it consists of 27 oceanfront three-bedroom/three-bathroom units, 19 of which are available for rent. Only a short distance from restaurants, about a 10-minute drive from George Town, it's well-maintained, pleasant, and stylish. The three-story design ensures a lower density of people on the beachfront than you're likely to find in front of newer properties with six or seven stories. Children under 12 are allowed on-site, but overall, they're rather carefully "policed" for misbehavior and loud noises, a policy that contributes to a sense of calm and sedate well-being that residents and investors work hard to maintain. The well-appointed, spacious units have an English colonial motif; durable, flowered, or pastel-colored upholsteries; plus king-size or twin beds. Each condo has a fully equipped open-sided kitchen whose amenities (including granite or Corian countertops) were upgraded in 2006 and a screened lanai that overlooks a stretch of the beach. Bathrooms have oversize tubs and separate shower stalls.
