The Winery Restaurant Review

Fine dining in an atmosphere of Western elegance is what you'll experience at the Winery, which is one of the best restaurants in Grand Junction. Tucked behind a gas-lit entry in an alley off Main, the dining room is housed in a historic firehouse, all redbrick and weathered wood and decorated with lots of plants, stained glass, and wine barrels and bottles. It's hard to go wrong here. The prime rib is especially enjoyable (get there early -- it often sells out), as is the grilled salmon with herb butter. The salmon and catch of the day are always fresh. Also recommended is the filet Oscar -- filet mignon and asparagus, covered in a lobster/crab Newburg sauce. You can get a variety of steaks, steak and seafood combos, a rack of lamb, or a center-cut pork chop as well. For dessert, try the homemade apple crisp with streusel topping, or the Palisade, the restaurant's signature dessert that is much too complicated to try to describe here.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
