Butler Greenwood Plantation B&B

This is a dynamite place to stay (as a plantation tour, it's nothing you won't see elsewhere -- though it is one of few that is still owned and occupied by the original family, and still a full-time family home), starting with the setting: There are extensive grounds full of tangled oak trees, plus a pond with resident ducks. The front main house (tours can be arranged for $5) is full of original family furnishings. The guest quarters are private cottages, each stocked with breakfast supplies and with its own personality, from the Old Kitchen (with the original 150-ft. well, covered by glass so guests can peer down it), to the Gazebo, with old church windows, to the storybook-cunning three-story Dovecot. Some rooms have Jacuzzis, fireplaces, and decks overlooking a minigorge; it's a splendid romantic retreat. Be sure to ask the owner, a prolific author, about her true-crime book that details a true crime she herself survived.
