Planning a Trip

Getting There

By Car -- Greeley is located at the crossroads of U.S. 34 (east-west) and U.S. 85 (north-south), midway between Denver and Cheyenne, Wyoming -- both of which are more directly reached by U.S. 85 than by I-25. U.S. 34 heads west 17 miles to I-25, beyond which are Loveland and Rocky Mountain National Park. To the east, U.S. 34 connects Greeley to Fort Morgan via I-76, 37 miles away.

By Airport Shuttle -- Visitors who fly into Denver International Airport can travel on to Greeley with the Rocky Mountain Shuttle Company (tel. 888/444-3580 or 970/356-3366; www.rockymountainshuttlecompany.com), with one-way rates of $31 per person.

Visitor Information

Contact the Greeley Convention & Visitors Bureau, 902 7th Ave., Greeley, CO 80631 (tel. 800/449-3866 or 970/352-3567; www.greeleycvb.com).

Getting Around

Greeley is laid out on a standard grid and is an easy city to navigate -- provided you don't get confused by the numbered streets (which run east-west) and numbered avenues (which run north-south). It helps to know which is which when you're standing at the corner of 10th Street and 10th Avenue. Eighth Avenue (U.S. 85) is the main north-south street through downtown. Ninth Street is U.S. 34 Business, jogging into 10th Street west of 23rd Avenue. The U.S. 34 Bypass joins U.S. 85 in a cloverleaf just south of town.

The city bus system, called simply The Bus (tel. 970/350-9287; www.greeleygov.com), provides in-town transportation. For a taxi, call Shamrock Yellow Cab (tel. 970/686-5555).

Fast Facts

The hospital, North Colorado Medical Center, is at 1801 16th St. (tel. 970/352-4121), just west of downtown. The post office is at 925 11th Ave. Contact the U.S. Postal Service (tel. 800/275-8777; www.usps.com) for hours and locations of other area post offices.

Special Events -- Colorado Farm Show, late January; the UNC Jazz Festival, April; Semana Latina and Cinco de Mayo, late April and early May; Greeley Stampede, late June and early July; Weld County Fair, early August; Potato Day celebrates Greeley's heritage, early September; Festival of Trees, early December.
