Restaurants

Locals swear by Sunday brunch at the Embassy Suites, 670 Verdae Blvd. (tel. 864/676-9090), where $19 a person will get you shrimp on ice, Belgian waffles, carving stations of prime rib and ham, and more. The best Chinese takeout in town is at the obviously named China, 2117 Old Spartanburg Rd., on the east side of town (tel. 864/322-0405), a family-run spot that serves up deliciously fresh standards like dumplings, General Tso's chicken, and shrimp with garlic sauce. And for a drive-by caffeine fix, head over to Liquid Highway, 14 Halton Rd., at Congaree Road (tel. 864/281-9130), a drive-through coffee bar serving excellent coffee, muffins, and smoothies (the beans are for sale, too). Don't forget to check out Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria and Blue Ridge Brewing Company, two downtown bars that serve great food as well.
