To stay here is to go back in time, not to the colonial period as with so many hotels, but to the late 19th century, when architecture and design in Mexico were borrowing heavily from French (called afrancesado) and Victorian styles. This elegant house, like so many on the Paseo de la Presa, was built then and has been painstakingly remodeled. The rooms are decorated and furnished with period furniture, wallpaper, and wainscoting. I prefer the three suites on the second floor (in Mexico, this is considered the first floor) to the three on the third floor. Behind the house are three larger, modern suites that have Jacuzzis. Rooms contain one king or two queen beds and have spacious, well-equipped bathrooms. Breakfast can be served in the dining room, on the terrace, or in the guest's room. The cocktail area serves drinks until 10pm.
