Water Wheel Inn ReviewA clean and well-kept roadside motel that's so quiet it's hard to hear any traffic at night, the Water Wheel Inn is a diamond in the rough. The "rough" is literal: The fringe of Dos Rios Golf Club is the backyard. Besides its convenient location next to the golf course and a restaurant 2 miles west of the center of Gunnison, the Water Wheel Inn also has a nice range of amenities, but alas no water wheel -- a new one is in the works. However, the resident ponds are teeming with fish (fish food is for sale in the lobby) and there's a play area for canine guests. Usually sporting one or two queen beds or a king, the rooms are standard motel rooms with patios and balconies; the suites have full kitchens and sleep four. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
