Haikou's old town, just north of the negligible Haikou Gongyuan (Haikou Park), around Xinhua Lu to Jiefang Lu and Zhongshan Lu would likely be more interesting if it wasn't in such a sorry state of disrepair and now hidden under years of soot and grime. There are a few memorial halls (Wugong Ci, or Five Officials Temple, in the eastern part of town) and a tomb (Hairui Mu in the western part of town) dedicated to various Chinese historical figures who were banished to Hainan. However, these are usually of interest to Chinese tourists only.
