Frommer's Review
This hidden gem of a café is a growing hit with local expats. The interior is bohemian-eclectic; an unfinished coat of peacock blue paint adorns the walls, and lamps made from what looks like inverted rice bowls are suspended from the ceiling with scarlet-colored velvet ropes. There's outdoor barstool seating on their small balcony, or you can curl up on their blue and orange couch. The music matches the zany décor. A folk singer's acoustic rendition of Beyonce's "Crazy In Love" was playing as I waited for my meal. Puku, which means "belly" in Maori, a native New Zealand minority, serves up hearty open sandwiches, pastas, and pastries. The Kia sandwich, a grilled open-faced sandwich topped with pesto, chicken, and cheese and served with saffron mayo and a small green salad, is a hearty lunch of champions. To get to the restaurant, head into the small door to the right of the big gallery located at the same address, head down the corridor, and take the first set of stairs to your left.
