Quan An Ngon ReviewNgon means "delicious" in Vietnamese, and this lively restaurant and its extensive menu live up to its name. Sit at the elbow-to-elbow tables in the open air or else inside, where it's cooler and quieter. The bustling courtyard, filled with Vietnamese professionals and students, is surrounded by well-stocked, clean food stalls, reminiscent of what you might find, at random, on the street, but without some of the, uh, hygiene concerns. My personal favorites are the pounded shrimp fried on sugar cane, served with greens that you then wrap in the accompanying rice paper, and the sautéed beef with salad greens. The spring rolls are a bit dry here, but still tasty. Prices are incredibly reasonable, and you can go to the cooking stations on the sides to check out tasty options; this is a great place to explore a wide-ranging sample of Vietnamese fare. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
