Frommer's Review
A massive downtown behemoth and a chain that traditionally caters to big conventions and the business market, the Sol Melia property in Hanoi is a convenient address for any traveler, whether businessperson or tourist. The feel is kind of sterile, but the hotel is luxurious and replete with good services. Melia caters to groups, but that doesn't take away from the good personal attention you'll get from a professional service staff. The hotel is conveniently just south of Hoan Kiem and near a number of attractions (the gritty 19-12 Market is just next door and Hoa Lo Prison is just around the corner). Melia is a good base from which to tour the city. Rooms are large and bland, too comfortable if you're looking for any kind of "authentic" Hanoi experience, but a fine high standard comparable to any in this category. Decor is a fine tidy contemporary, with flora-pattern beds and ample-size rooms featuring slick executive desks and nice little touches like cozy slippers and thick robes.
