Getting There

Daily trains run hourly from London's Charing Cross Station to Hastings. The trip takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours. The train station at Battle is a stop on the London-Hastings rail link. For rail information, call tel. 0845/748-4950 or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk.

Hastings is linked by bus to Maidstone, Folkestone, and Eastbourne, which has direct service with scheduled departures. National Express operates regular daily service from London's Victoria Coach Station. If you're in Rye or Hastings in summer, several frequent buses run to Battle. If you're driving from the M25 ring road around London, head southeast to the coast and Hastings on the A21. To get to Battle, cut south to Sevenoaks and continue along the A21 to Battle via the A2100.

Visitor Information

In Hastings, the Hastings Information Centre is at Queen's Square, Priory Meadow (tel. 0845/2741001; www.visit1066country.com). It's open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 6:15pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm, and Sunday 10:30am to 4:30pm.

In Battle, the Tourist Information Centre at Battle Abbey Gatehouse (tel. 01424/776789; www.1066country.com) is open April to September daily 9:30am to 5:30pm, October daily 10am to 5pm, and November to March daily from 10am to 4pm.
