The view from this off-the-beaten-track inn is worth the price alone: the 120-foot Kulaniapia Waterfall in one direction and the entire town of Hilo sprawled out 850 feet below in another direction. This is the place for a romantic getaway. In addition to luxury accommodations, you get a royal breakfast with egg dishes, fresh fruit grown on the 22-acre property, and just-baked breads. Wander along the 2-mile pathways that follow the Waiau River (check out the exotic bamboo garden) or swim at the base of the waterfall in the 300-foot pond. The rooms are well appointed, with balconies. It's just 15 minutes from Hilo but feels a zillion miles away from everything in the peaceful surroundings of a 2,000-acre macadamia-nut grove.
