For a romantic evening out, the wine list, warm interior, and elaborate entrées here unite in a perfect troika. What makes the place so special are the unique dining rooms, which feature beautiful carpets and, in several instances, elaborate wine shelves (good to have close at hand, no?). If you call in advance you can also reserve a table next to the outside fireplace. The entire operation is overseen by head chef Chaun Bescos, who grew up on an organic farm in Hawaii. This auspicious upbringing led to a career in Hilton Head where he works closely with local growers to put together a range of seasonal offerings. Dinner is the time to show up for something special; some of the high points here include a chorizo-crusted local flounder and Low Country shrimp and grits with fried okra and kale. The wine list runs deep, and with over 1,000 bottles on hand, there's a perfect pairing for any occasion. And a bonus: A retail wine store is also on premises, which can add a nice touch to a picnic on one of the nearby beaches. Red Fish also offers gluten-free menus and has an accommodating kitchen in general. A local jazz trio holds court every Wednesday at 7:30pm.
