Hilton Head has the dubious distinction of having some of the most expensive restaurants in South Carolina. What on the island might be ranked as moderate would be considered very expensive in other parts of the state. There are more than 250 eateries of all price levels and styles. Here are some of the best of them.

Moderate -- All of these so-called moderately priced restaurants have expensive shellfish dishes. However, if you order from the lower end of the price scale, enjoying mainly meat and poultry dishes, you'll find platters that cost $20 or less. Helpings, for the most part, are generous, so you'll rarely need to order appetizers, which will keep your overall cost down.
