Tucked away in the Shipyard Plantation and designed as the centerpiece of that plantation's 800 acres, this five-story inn gives the Westin stiff competition. The golf course associated with the hotel has been praised by the National Audubon Society for its respect for local wildlife. Guest rooms are simple, yet the sheer beauty of the landscaping, the attentive service, and the well-trained staff (dressed in nautically inspired uniforms) go a long way toward making your stay memorable. The most glamorous restaurant is Portz, and a good middle-bracket choice is Brella's, serving both lunch and dinner. Certain nights in the premier bar, Signals, feature line dancing and shag dancing.
