Frommer's Review
If you can get a really good rate, this hotel is in a good downtown location. If not, you will be better off at the newly renovated Palace Hotel across the street. Expect a fountain misting with dry ice in the lobby, pink plastic hangers, polyurethane slippers in the closet, and shiny polyester bedspreads. There's a rooftop massage area with a hot tub surrounded by plaster reliefs of sea nymphs and electric-light blinking stars on the ceiling. The original hotel was built nearly 100 years ago and underwent a renovation in 1994, and everything is still in good shape. The lobby and hallways don't have air conditioning so it's not a very welcome place to return to after touring around the hot city all day. All rooms are quite large and have interesting Asian carved furniture, tidy carpeting, and rock-hard beds (you can request a soft one). Bathrooms are clean but basic (no counter space). The hotel offers great discounts if you book directly through their website.
