Palace Hotel ReviewThis downtown tower has been around for a while. In fact, it was popular for U.S. soldiers on R & R during the war years. They are in the midst of an image-changing renovation (should be done by the time you read this), and the hotel looks 10 times better. The modern Art Deco decor and new windows let in plenty of light. Carpets are done in pinstripes of red, brown, and orange, with solid-colored cushions and footstools for contrast. Just in case they fall behind schedule, make sure to ask for a renovated room. The walls have a fresh coat of cream-colored paint, the furniture is dark wood, the thin, ratty blue bedspreads of past rooms have been replaced with cozy white cotton duvets, and the bathrooms are sparkling and new. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.

| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
