Hoi An has seen a recent boom in upscale resorts and there are more on the way along Cua Dai Beach. Large-scale new construction in Hoi An proper is prohibited by UNESCO, but smaller hotels are getting nicer and there are a few new options closer to town. The hotels listed here are broken into three sections: in-town accommodations, hotels lining Cua Dai Road, and the finer resorts some 3 to 4km (1 3/4-2 1/2 miles) from town along Cua Dai Road and at the beach. With so much competition and so many new resorts going up and posting promotional rates, you can find some great deals for very fine rooms and, with some good bargaining, real steals on a room in the heart of the old city.
Cua Dai Beach -- The Cua Dai Beach area is lined with hotels, and surveyors are already lining up for future development. There's some decent swimming and a few very good, affordable accommodations.
Along Cua Dai Road -- Busy little Cua Dai doesn't offer the most spectacular accommodations, but you can find some small hotels along its length, a few with a pool and popular with large groups. Discounts abound, and the prices listed here are just a point of departure for negotiating. If calling for reservations, ask about a "contract rate" or a current discount policy, and begin bargaining for a price for 1 day and ask for less for 2 or more. The Hoi An Riverside is an exception: It's a fine, high-end property.
