They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and are open from 7am until late; and Stumpers Bar and Café, corner of Weld and Revell streets (tel. 0800/788-673; www.stumpers.co.nz), gets the most local votes for the most consistently good meals. It's open daily from 7am until late.

Café de Paris, 19 Tancred St. (tel. 03/755-8933), seems like it has been around forever. It provides reasonably good meals; the French owner has always swung his menu in favor of things European. When service is not patchy, you'll dine well. They're open daily, 7:30am till late. For tasty treats to eat in or takeaway, visit Hokitika Cheese & Deli, 84 Revell St. (tel. 03/755-5432). They stock an excellent range of imported and local cheeses, fresh and cured meats, and delicious cabinet food for light lunches or picnics; and are open daily from 7:30am. Eats Café, 105 Revell St. (tel. 03/755-8612), is another good spot for a quick lunch or takeaway picnic fare. They serve all-day breakfasts, gourmet pizza, and a variety of baked goods.
