In downtown Hood River, drop in at the community-sponsored, not-for-profit Columbia Art Gallery, 215 Cascade St. (tel. 541/387-8877; www.columbiaartgallery.org). If you're an avid cook, you'll want to stop in at Annz Panz, 315 Oak St. (tel. 541/387-2654), a large and well-stocked cookware store with a cafe and espresso counter. The first Friday of each month (May-Oct), downtown galleries and shops are open from 5 to 8pm with local artists on hand to sell their work and demonstrate their skills. Between April and December, you can sample local produce at the Hood River Saturday Market at the corner of Fifth and Cascade streets in downtown Hood River. The market is open on Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
