Hua Hin -- There are lots of mid- and low-range choices in and around central Hua Hin. City Beach Resort (16 Damnoenkasem Rd.; tel. 03251-2870; www.citybeach.co.th) abuts the Hilton and is not bad in a pinch (rooms from 1,920B/US$55/£30), and nearby Sirin Hotel (tel. 03251-1150) has basic rooms from 1,600B (US$46/£25) comparable to those listed here, and with an outdoor pool.
Cha-Am -- Along the quiet stretch between Hua Hin and Cha-Am there are a number of fine resorts (and a growing number of condos). Cha-Am village itself is a bit raucous (the Ocean City, New Jersey, to Hua Hin's The Hamptons) and most stay outside of town; for in-town lodging, try the Methavalai, below.
