Introduction to IncaAbout 27km (17 miles) north of Palma is Inca, the island's second-largest city and Majorca's market and agricultural center. Thursday is market day for farming equipment and livestock, but visitors will be more interested in the variety of low-priced leather goods -- shoes, purses, jackets, and coats -- sold here. In general, stores in Inca selling these leather goods are open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 7pm and Saturday 9:30am to noon. Modernization has deprived Inca of its original charm, but the parish church of Santa María la Mayor and the convent of San Jerónimo hold some interest, as does the original Son Fuster Inn, a reminder of an earlier, simpler era. From Palma, trains (tel. 97-150-00-59) run Monday to Friday at the rate of 40 per day and 36 on Saturday and Sunday. Trip time is only 40 minutes. A one-way ticket costs 4€.
