Indiana has a multitude of affordable chain hotels and motels throughout the state. New in 2006 is the swanky Conrad Indianapolis, 50 W. Washington St. (tel. 317/713-5000; www.conradhotels.com), a 23-story, 241-room hotel with a spa, two restaurants, and fitness center. In Shipshewana, WanaWaves Resort (tel. 260/768-7729; www.splashuniverse.com/wanawaves) is slated to open in early 2007, and in French Lick, the historic French Lick Resort Casino, 8670 W. State Road 56 (tel. 812/936-9300; www.frenchlick.com) is undergoing a $382-million renovation, which includes the restoration of its 1920 golf course and the construction of a casino, pool, fitness center, and several new on-site eateries and watering holes.
