Frommer's Review
There's a lot of energy, ambience, and goodwill associated with this place, which is reflected in the fact that it has become one of its neighborhood's most popular dining and drinking venues since it was established in 1996. As such, it's the newest brewery in Tyrol and the only one that's based within the city limits of Innsbruck. The setting is on two floors of what was originally built in the 1940s as a movie theater. Today, in lieu of a big screen, you'll find all the apparatus and paraphernalia of a brewery (including big copper and stainless steel vats), artfully positioned in full view of the bar and the dining tables. The theme of the place doesn't evoke alpine Austria, as so many other restaurants in Innsbruck rather shamelessly do. Instead, you can expect a nautical motif of fish nets, brass and mahogany navigational instruments, rowboats, and old-fashioned steamer trunks. All of this is peripheral, of course, to the beer, which comes in as many as four different varieties that vary with the season and the whims of the brewmaster. Regardless of the color and flavor of the brew you select, it costs about 3€ ($3.90) for a foaming half-liter, or 8.50€ ($11) for an American-style 1.4-liter pitcher. Menu items might include everything from a small platter of beer-compatible sausages, a snack that management prices at 7€ ($9.10), to more substantial platters of meat, potatoes, or noodle-based dishes.
