Grand Hotel Europa Review

Opposite Innsbruck's railway station, in the heart of the city, the Europa is the best hotel in Innsbruck (it's also part of the Worldhotels Reservations System). Dating from 1869, this very formal but friendly hotel has hosted Queen Elizabeth II, the shah of Iran, General Patton, and the crew of Apollo 14. Rooms and suites are handsomely furnished with modern conveniences and Tyrolean or Biedermeier-style decorations. Each room offers a comfortable bed and a bathroom with a neatly kept tub/shower combination. The uniformed staff is helpful in every way and will usually be willing to show you the ornate yellow-and-white Barock Saal, which the Tyrolean government uses for its most important functions. The ballroom was constructed by King Ludwig's Bavarian architects and builders. The restaurant, Europa Stüberl, is the finest in Tyrol.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; sauna; room service; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; exercise room; solarium

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
