Believe it or not, tiny Bocas is home to one of the few gourmet supermarkets in the country, Super Gourmet (tel. 757-9357; Mon-Sat 9am-7pm), with imported foods, vegetarian and organic products, and very expensive produce. Super Gourmet, which has a full-service delicatessen, is located next to the Hotel Bahía on the south end of Main Street. You'll find good coffee drinks and lots of reading material at Starfish Coffee on Main Street next to El Encanto bar, and good breakfasts on a waterfront dock at the Coffee Bar inside Hotel El Limbo on the Sea. For cheap, gringo-style fast food, try McDouglas' Golden Grill (daily 7:30am-11pm) on Main Street across from the plaza. For pizzas, you can't beat Alberto's Pizzas (tel. 756-9066; Mon-Sat 11am-3pm and 5-11pm), made fresh to order by an Italian who knows his stuff. It's located on Calle 5 at Avenida F, but the building was for sale at press time.

The new 9 Degrees Restaurant and Tropical Markets promises to be one of the most upscale dining options in Bocas Town, featuring a fruit, vegetable, and meat market, as well as an upscale restaurant serving international food. It has an expansive bar and excellent ocean views. The restaurant's chic exterior seems out of place among Bocas's clap-board Caribbean-style buildings, but it is a testament to the quickly changing face of the island. At press time, the restaurant was only open for dinner, but the American owners have plans to open up for lunch as well soon.

You should keep in mind that like lodging, dining in Bocas tends to be more expensive than other regions in Panama, and many restaurants do not accept credit cards, so make sure you have plenty of cash.
