Walking or driving toward the southern tip of the island, you’ll find a once-isolated natural point with a lighthouse and small Maya shrine. Today, the area includes a cluster of shops, a restaurant and Sculptured Spaces, a sculpture garden with pieces donated to Isla Mujeres by internationally renowned sculptors including José Luis Cuevas and Vladimir Cora. A small Maya ruin dedicated to the fertility goddess Ixchel lies here as well (below). A lighthouse is also located here. The Cliff of the Dawn lies just beyond the sculpture garden and offers extraordinary views from pathways leading nearly to the water’s edge. The cafe and restrooms on-site are generally open from 9am to 5pm, but you can enter at any time.
