Frommer's Review

This is Bocas's most historic hotel, located in the old United Fruit Company headquarters. It's a lovely example of Caribbean architecture, with breeze-swept verandas, built in 1905. Vestiges of the building's original purpose remain, such as the front desk's barred windows and an enormous steel safe; and the long hall with polished pine floors is antique splendor. Superior doubles are better than standards because they have been recently renovated. Standard rooms are frumpy and need new paint, but even the renovated rooms could have been designed with a little more eye for style, and in keeping with the history of the building. Nevertheless, the superiors are comfortable and have a lot of amenities. The Hotel Bahía has very friendly service, it should be noted, and a good Italian restaurant. Hotel Bahía is not located on the waterfront, nor does it have ocean views.
