Frommer's Review
The only thing you can really say about the Hotel Isla Grande is that it fronts a perfect half-moon beach with golden sand and a calm-water swimming area that's ideal for kids. The rest of the property looks as if the owners had ideas that were bigger than their funding. There is a drab, motel-like unit with guest rooms adorned with mismatched wallpaper and dingy bathrooms, and a second such building that appears to be stalled in the middle of construction -- with no end date in sight. Your best bet here is one of the candy-colored cabins on the beach that cost $50 per night for four guests from Monday to Thursday, and $60 Friday through Sunday. They're nothing special, but they're clean, and open straight onto the sand. Given the swimming area here, and the kids' playground, the hotel receives a lot of Panamanian families, but really the place seems better suited for a bunch of guys who aren't too picky and just want to kick back with a cooler of beer. Also, if you're looking for anonymity, this is your spot because no one on the staff will ever pay you any attention. An open-air, cantina-style restaurant here serves simple meals.
