Hotel Na Balam ReviewThis popular two-story hotel on Playa Norte has simple, comfortable rooms and well-tended beach grounds. Rooms are in three sections; some face the beach, and others are across the street in a garden setting with a swimming pool. The large rooms contain a king-size or two double beds, a seating area, folk-art decorations, and a terrace or balcony with hammocks. Master suites have additional amenities, including small pools with hydromassage. The older section is well kept and surrounds a peaceful, palm-filled, sandy inner yard and Playa Norte. The hotel gets a lot of yoga practitioners and offers classes on a regular basis. The restaurant, Zazil Ha, is one of the island's most popular. A beachside bar serves a selection of natural juices and is one of the most popular spots for sunset-watching. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
