Frommer's Review
In 1996 the Istanbul Sheraton morphed into the Ceylan Inter-Continental, making way for yet another luxury five-star hotel. Unfortunately, the existing concrete-and-glass monolith exterior didn't change its shape in the process. But structures like these are meant to please the eye from the inside, and that it does. The central glass-and-marble staircase sets the stage for just the right amount of pomp for the hotel's "international clientele." Choosing among the sunken Palm Terrace, the elegant Tea Lounge, and the high-storied City Lights Bar presents a difficult dilemma for an afternoon break or a late-night drink. The rooms are plush and elegant, with an armchair, desk, and loveseat to create a homey feel. That Ricky Martin and the Rolling Stones slept here elevate this hotel to six stars in my mind (all for as low as 133€ ($162) if you book via the Internet). And it's all just a few steps away from the bustle of Taksim Square.
