Frommer's Review
A clean, inexpensive option in this part of town is hard to find, but the Galata Antique, located just down the street from the British embassy and a few steps away from the entrance to Tünel and Istiklal Caddesi, provides a friendly and convenient one. The building was designed by the French architect Vallaury in 1881 and still retains some 19th-century charm in its caged elevator and carved wooden arches. The rooms are basic, tasteful, and elegant, and the bathrooms, although recently redone with fresh tile, are a bit disappointing due to the sparse sink and shower setups. The entrance to the hotel sits in the middle of a flight of exterior steps, so the Galata Antique may not be appropriate for everyone. However, the location is ideal.
