Frommer's Review
Vegetarians and innovative chefs around the world know the Moosewood cookbooks -- and here is where it all began. This informal restaurant -- now in its fourth decade -- located in a converted school-building-turned-alternative-mall, is run by a cooperative (or "collective," as they call it) that delivers imaginative vegetarian and healthy cooking. Bon Appétit magazine named the Moosewood one of the 13 most influential restaurants of the 20th century. The menu is forever changing, but always features fresh, locally grown (and usually organic) produce and whole grains, beans, and soy. The creative soups, salads, and side dishes are enough to make a hearty meal, but the homemade pasta dishes are also excellent and filling. Sunday-night dinners are ethnic menus. Nonvegetarians will be delighted to find fresh fish on the menu, as will parents who can order simple and very cheap kids' plates.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
