The Tides Zihuatanejo Review

The Tides sits on one of Mexico's most beautiful beaches. Suites feature one or two bedrooms, living areas, large terraces, and private plunge pools. Rooms are decorated with modern Mexican touches and include comfy lounges, excellent reading lights, CD players, and hammocks that beckon at siesta time. There are 11 beachside suites and one presidential suite. Those units that don't overlook the beach surround a fountain-filled lagoon and tropical gardens with enchanted lighting at night. Service remains first rate, though perhaps not as personalized as when this was Villa del Sol. The Tides allows children only in two-bedroom suites and generally has a quiet feel. The meal plan (breakfast and dinner) is mandatory in high season and includes an excellent variety of cuisine. In addition to the exquisite beach area, pools, restaurants, and bars, the Tides offers a full-service spa, tennis courts, and beach club. You can even request a massage on the sand.

Facilities:
2 open-air beachside restaurants; 3 bars; 4 outdoor pools; room service; full-service spa; 2 lighted tennis courts

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
