After many years in the restaurant business in Istanbul, Bamze and Medari Dogangir decided it was time for a change of scenery and a slower, calmer pace. Their dream crystallized in 2007 with the opening of this tiny and stylish meyhane in one of Izmir's most popular, and certainly characteristic, neighborhoods. If you've tried to get a reservation at Asansör but failed, Medari's place is just a few steps away. If you can forgo the admittedly spectacular views, you may just want to make a beeline here first, where the food, ambience, and authenticity of a lively Turkish evening spent over good food and music (Greek music Thurs-Sat) are guaranteed.
