Sawgrass Golf Resort & Spa ReviewOne of the nation's largest golf resorts, this luxury destination in prestigious Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, is virtually surrounded by golf, including the Pete Dye-designed THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, home of the annual THE PLAYERS Championship in May. In fact, the resort was ranked the best golf resort in Florida and ninth best in the country by Travel + Leisure Golf magazine in 2008. Overlooking the picturesque 13th hole, the seven-story hotel sits beside one of the lakes that make the course so challenging. The view augments the gourmet fusion cuisine served in the resort's restaurants, including Augustine Grille, 619 Ocean View, and V. Kelly's. The guest rooms in the hotel are exceptional and have recently been refurbished with new furniture and decor. Fully equipped one- and two-bedroom "villa suites" (condominium apartments) on or near the golf course have large patios. A complimentary shuttle takes guests to the oceanside Cabana Beach Club for a day at the beach. Facilities: 7 restaurants; 4 bars; 4 outdoor pools (2 heated); 8 golf courses; 2 health clubs; Jacuzzi; watersports equipment/rentals; bike rental; children's programs; game room; concierge; activities desk; business center; limited room service; babysitting; laundry service; coin-op washers/dryers; concierge-level rooms Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
